Spring Street Gallery is proud to Remembered Geometries presents works based on traditional housetop quilt patterns. The technical use of textile and thread, color, line, and texture contributes to the overall complexity and magnetism of the exhibit. Van der Laan shares her craft with brilliant sophisticated simplicity.

In addition to the traditional sales, van der Laan presents “Pay What You Wish”. She says, “These works are 8” x 8” stretched gallery wrapped textile sketches offered at whatever price feels good to the buyer, no floor, no ceiling. The intention of this project is to promote equitable access to art and to cultivate a spirit of generosity.”

A portion of the proceeds sold through Spring Street Gallery will benefit Youth FX. Based in Albany, Youth FX primary mission is to work with diverse groups of youth from communities that have been historically under-served and in need of opportunities to learn filmmaking and acquire skills in emerging media technologies.

Victoria will be setting up a pop up studio in the gallery and will be available to share her exhibition with visitors 12 – 4 pm on September 25 & October 9, 16, 22, 30.

The Gallery will otherwise be open from 11-1 pm Wednesdays and Thursdays and by appt. Additional hours will be announced as they become available.

About the Artist

Victoria Van der Laan is a textile artist working in Albany, NY.  A self/generationally taught artist, she makes work using traditional techniques learned from her Grandmothers while also deeply informed by a love of abstraction and a painterly approach. She has been exhibiting her work professionally since 2017.

Within the last five years, she has achieved regional and tri-state recognition. Her work has recently been honored and chosen to be included in the permanent collection of the Albany Institute of History and Art and the Hyde Art Museum.
